First of all, a huge thank you to Wintons for allowing us to use Mallard lake for the event, and making us most welcome, a wonderful venue, and superbly ran by Mo, Paula and the guys.

Friday was sunny and bright, so after the formalities of the draw for swims, it was nice to get set up in the dry.

Friday night proved quiet on the fish front, with the exception of Darral Collins who managed to winkle a few out, that man could catch in a car park puddle !

Come Saturday morning, the rain began, and I took the opportunity to nip into Burgess Hill and grab some supplies, upon my return I bumped into Andrew Eglon heading towards the car park, totally soaked, “have you fallen in” I asked. “No, new PB” was his reply. Phil Cochrane and Dan Tully had given him the bucket of water treatment !

Totally deserved for this cracking 83lb cat.

Dean Aldridge came down on the Saturday evening, camping behind Phil, equipped with his camera, hoping to get some shots. He didn’t have to wait long, as whilst he was chatting to Rob Payne and myself, we heard some commotion, Scott Dennison was into a fish.

The result, another PB at 41lb 9oz

Well done Scott !

The final PB of the event, catfish wise, fell to Jason Barnes, who managed to break his Wintons duck, earlier in the event, with a small cat, he topped his session off with this cracker at 64lb 4oz

Nice one Jason !

All in all, I was very pleased with how the event panned out, although the fishing wasn’t easy, and the weather was “character building”, everyone appeared to have a great time.

Finally, a couple of special mentions, Phil Cochrane for helping the guys out with their fishing, and being a good bloke all round. Gary Greenwood for a PB pike at 19lb, and Jimmy Bryant, who wasn’t actually fishing the event but upped his PB twice on Heron lake.

Irons are in the fire for next year’s fish-ins, so keep an eye on the group page, you wouldn’t want to miss out, would you ?

Tight lines

Alan.
